The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture: new art museum in Riverside

The Cheech is now open!

This new art museum, located in Downtown Riverside, is 61,420 square feet of renovated space displaying vibrant Chicano art; paintings, photographs, drawings and sculptures while also housing a community art exhibit, video multi-purpose room and education studio.

Formally the space accommodated Riverside’s main public library, but now is the permanent residence for hundreds of pieces of Chicano art, including Cheech Marin’s vast collection accompanied with touring artist exhibits.

The second floor is currently showing Einar and Jamex de la Torre’s, exhibition called Collidoscope: de la Torre Brothers Retro-Perspective. The de la Torre brothers’ exhibition is only visiting Riverside until January 2023, then it will continue to tour nationally.

Some of our LULAC of Riverside members attended the Preview of the Cheech Art Museum on Thursday June 16th. They were moved by the one-of-a-kind art throughout the museum, inspired by the wide variety of mediums used, blown away by the intricate meanings, and highly recommend everyone to visit. During the Preview day, LULAC of Riverside members were able to meet Cheech Marin, himself; as well as the de la Torre brothers, Einar and Jamex.
