Health Fair 2013

Riverside LULAC 3190 is dedicated to improving and enriching the community we serve. In doing so, we made it a goal to establish our first health fair in 2011. Little did we know that the first health fair would soon blossom into another health fair on February 23rd, 2013; which has been a amazing success thankfully to our wonderful partners the Tzu Chi Foundation, the Flying Doctors, the Lions Club, and many other community partners. Continuing with the momentum, we are dutifully working on our third annual Health Clinic for February 22nd, 2014.

The 2nd Annual Health Clinic success was not just gauged on how many people were served, which was over 2, 000 community members, but in how many imperative services were offered and given.

Our good friends at the Tzu Chi Foundation provided desperately needed dental treatment to over 174 people. Additionally, the Tzu Chi Foundation provided acupuncture service to over 104 people, and to most of the recipients of this unique service, they have never experienced such holistic treatment and were pleasantly surprised in its effectiveness. We look forward to working with the Tzu Chi Foundation once more.

The amazing people at the Flying Doctors have humbly provided primary care to approximately 126 community members. We have been very blessed to work with the Flying Doctors and are so pleased to know that they will attend our next Health Clinic.

Thanks to the Friends in Sight, our health clinic was able to offer vision screenings and eyeglasses to over 405 people. Again, the Friends in Sight have continued to support our community efforts to improve the health of our community through by agreeing to participate in our next Health Clinic.

Health services provided by these three partners alone would make for a more than successful Health Clinic. Fortunately, our other partners provided medical screenings to 406 people and HIV testing. Planned

Parenthood provided cervical cancer screenings. There were even free haircuts from the talented students at the RCC School of Cosmetology. In all we had over 250 volunteers donate their time, energy, and services to the Health Clinic; without them, this and any future Health Clinics would be impossible.

At the end of the evening on February 23rd, 2013 over 1,300 community member were given free medical services, stemming from basic health screenings to life changing dental treatment. Though all of at LULAC of Riverside is proud our achievements, it’s really just a drop in a bucket compared to severe need of medical services in the area. However, we refuse to allow any daunting need to go unmet; we strive to achieve greater and bigger Health Clinics.  For more information please feel to email us at LULAC.DE.RIVERSIDE@gmail.com
